I just got back from an event called Toronto Girl Geek Dinners, it was held at The Pilot, on Cumberland in Toronto, and there was a panel discussion and tons of techy women there. I must say I enjoyed it immensely. I really feel empowered to work on my resume and online persona, and it has put me in a job searching mood. Since I'm a University student, and will be going on co-op in the winter, its probably a good idea for me to get myself in gear on the whole resume related thing. I've got lots to add to my resume to get it up to date. I've been intending to make up an online resume, but I am constantly putting it off. I think it would be a great thing to be able to have photos of my work up online so that potential employers can get a look at what I do, I never feel like a 2 page paper gets me across as well as I would like it to. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, so what would a website designed by myself with both written information and photographic documentation of my work say about me? I think a whole lot.
On a fun side note, I won a pen set from Microsoft, the sponsors of the event. They were also giving away a Zune. At Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing '08 I won a Zune from Microsoft, which was amazing. All through the prize draw it was joked about how ironic it would be if I won a Zune again, the odds would be like one in a million. I was happy to win something, Microsoft if you keep sponsoring events I attend I'll end up with enough prizes to fill a pool!
Take a look, this is the Zune I won at Grace Hopper:

And here is my magnificent pen set:

They are styled to look like golf clubs, I think my favourite is the sand wedge, its got a solid weight to it.
