Toronto Girl Geek Dinner - Tons of Fun

I just got back from an event called Toronto Girl Geek Dinners, it was held at The Pilot, on Cumberland in Toronto, and there was a panel discussion and tons of techy women there. I must say I enjoyed it immensely. I really feel empowered to work on my resume and online persona, and it has put me in a job searching mood. Since I'm a University student, and will be going on co-op in the winter, its probably a good idea for me to get myself in gear on the whole resume related thing. I've got lots to add to my resume to get it up to date. I've been intending to make up an online resume, but I am constantly putting it off. I think it would be a great thing to be able to have photos of my work up online so that potential employers can get a look at what I do, I never feel like a 2 page paper gets me across as well as I would like it to. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, so what would a website designed by myself with both written information and photographic documentation of my work say about me? I think a whole lot.

On a fun side note, I won a pen set from Microsoft, the sponsors of the event. They were also giving away a Zune. At Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing '08 I won a Zune from Microsoft, which was amazing. All through the prize draw it was joked about how ironic it would be if I won a Zune again, the odds would be like one in a million. I was happy to win something, Microsoft if you keep sponsoring events I attend I'll end up with enough prizes to fill a pool!

Take a look, this is the Zune I won at Grace Hopper:

And here is my magnificent pen set:

They are styled to look like golf clubs, I think my favourite is the sand wedge, its got a solid weight to it.

Skittles Vodka

I'm in the process of making Skittles Vodka right now. I'm referring to this website for my instructions:
http://mixthatdrink.com/skittles-vodka-tutorial/
My boyfriend and I mixed 6 shots of the purple skittles stuff last night and will be filtering it as soon as I finish this post. Should hopefully be delicious. Provided it is we plan on buying some dollar store bottles to store the concoctions in so we can have the rainbow of flavours like the picture on the provided website. Note: The recipe called for a pound of skittles.. I bought a kilo of it. Ahaha.. Oh well more for me to eat. ^^;

Meeting Madness - STEGADON RAH!

Sitting in a computer science club meeting. I feel like I should have an idea or a theme about the stuff I want to be saying here. It’ll give me a good focus. But that doesn’t mean that I can’t post randomness to go along with it.

I recently got involved in Warhammer. I’ve begun my Lizardman army. Purchased a Salamander as my first ever model and am almost all done painting him up. I’ve been working on trying to find a nice colour theme to base my entire army off of. I can’t quite decide. I’ve been considering three real colour schemes. Purple with green detail, green with purple detail and orange with dark green detail. The Salamander is red to orange and yellow with grey black detail. Common, but I like it anyways and its really working out well for me. My dad has gotten really into it as well which I am very happy about. He is currently getting a Vampire Count army and was nice enough to buy me a Stegadon and is happily building him for me. Its going to have the Engine of the Gods on it. Awesome.

Wordpress->Blogger?

I think I might be a deserter. I've just made a blog here and I already have one on wordpress.com
I guess I'll just use both until I decide which I like more, and let the other one drift off into the waves of the internet. I just made a post a minute ago, I'm going to move it on over here. Lets see if I like you Blogger.. prove yourself!
